Sunday In The Kitchen and On The Trail

Sunday was spent in the kitchen cooking and prepping food for the week.  We tried our hands at making homemade vegetable stock for the first time and it turned out pretty good.  We have been saving all of our vegetable scraps since December.  We roasted a variety of vegetables such as onion, leeks, beets, carrots, celery, bell pepper, garlic, etc and then added water and let it cooked for 1 1/2 hours.  The final product is pretty good.

All the roasted vegetables added.

Straining the vegetables out.

Ready to use vegetable broth.

After we finished cooking we took advance of the 50 degree weather and went for our first walk on the trail across from the house.

Saturday Night Luminary Walk

Saturday night we went to a Luminary Walk at The Farm at St. Joe's Hospital.  The hospital has a fully functioning farm on one side of the hospital and the Luminary Walk wound throughout the farm.  The weather turned out to be a very nice 40 some degree night and surprisingly we were very warm.  They had apple cider and other refreshments with a petting zoo too.

There was no snow, but this was one of the pictures on the event page.

Two Little Chefs

Brian and I were little sou chefs again today and had a date day (night) at Sur La Table.  Chef Amber was our teacher again for our course, Pasta at Home.  For our class today, we made fresh pasta dough, from scratch for two different meals.  The first was for Tarragon-Leaf Pasta Sheets with Creamy Chicken and Mushrooms and the second was for Tagliatelle with Tomato-Pancetta Sauce and Basil.  Both were excellent dishes.  It was really fun and easy to make pasta; flour, eggs, olive oil and time.  One pasta incorporated tarragon leaves in it and was a wider lasagna shaped noodle, while the second pasta was a plane pasta noodle shaped similar to that of a fettuccine noodle.
